Who Extech is
Extech has sold test and measurement tools since 1971 and was acquired by Teledyne FLIR in 2007. Its range covers multimeters, clamp meters, HVAC and air quality instruments, thermometers, dataloggers and light meters, aimed at professionals and trades.
What we list
Two Extech meters are on our light meters page: the LT300 and the pocket-size LT45. They sit between no-name budget meters and lab-grade instruments, from a brand with published specs and a support network.
What a lux meter can and cannot tell you
A lux meter is the simplest way to check whether a light therapy lamp delivers its rated lux at your actual sitting distance, or how dark your bedroom really is. Our lux levels tool and how many lux do you need give the targets.
Lux is weighted to visual brightness, not to the blue-sensitive response that drives the body clock, so two lights with the same lux can have different circadian effects. Measuring that needs a spectrometer. Treat lux as a good proxy for white light and a rough one for colored light.
