Who Sekonic is
Sekonic Corporation is headquartered in Setagaya, Tokyo. Besides exposure and color meters, the company makes optical mark readers, security cameras, viscometers and electronic paper, and does contract electronics manufacturing. Its US site focuses on precision exposure meters, light meters, color meters and spectrometers for photographers and film crews.
What we list
The C-800 SpectroMaster is on our light meters page. Unlike a basic lux meter, a spectrometer measures how much light arrives at each wavelength. That is what you need to compare how much blue content two “warm” bulbs really have, or to check whether a red night light is truly free of short wavelengths.
Who it suits
It is a professional tool priced for photographers and cinematographers. Most people checking a light therapy lamp or a bedroom at night only need a budget lux meter. A spectrometer makes sense if you want to compare bulbs by spectrum rather than by marketing labels. For background on why spectrum matters for sleep, see our guide to the best light color for sleep, and use the lux levels tool for brightness targets.
