Good

  • Yale measured 11,000 lux at 12 in, above the rating
  • Desk-lamp arm holds the light above eye level
  • 4,000K LEDs; Carex states flicker-free and 100% UV blocked
  • $30 less than the Classic Plus

Not so good

  • 135 sq in panel is well under CET's 200 sq in target, so head position matters more
  • Two settings only, no timer
  • Returns must be in new condition, minus a 10% restocking fee

The Day-Light Sky is the smallest lamp here with an independent measurement behind it. Carex rates it at 10,000 lux from 12 to 14 inches, and Yale’s light therapy group measured 11,000 lux at 12 inches on the Day-Light Sky (model DL2000). In Yale researchers’ 2019 comparison of 24 devices it was device X6, one of 7 that met all three criteria, and Yale lists it among smaller units that “still offer a true 10,000 lux treatment.”

It is built like a desk lamp. The arm adjusts in height and the head tilts, so the light comes from above and angles down, which the Center for Environmental Therapeutics recommends to cut glare. Flip it to the task setting and it serves as an ordinary work light after your session.

The cost of the smaller footprint is a smaller target. The panel is 13.5 x 10 inches, about 135 square inches, against CET’s 200 square inch guideline. You need to keep your head roughly centered, which is easy at a desk and harder while eating or moving around.

Carex lists 4,000K LEDs, a flicker-free claim and a diffuser that blocks 100% of UV. The warranty is five years. As with the Classic Plus, the return policy requires the lamp in new condition and deducts a 10% restocking fee.

At $139.99 on carex.com it costs $30 less than the Day-Light Classic Plus. If you have the desk space, the Classic Plus’s larger panel is worth the difference. If you do not, this is the compact lamp to buy.
