Good

  • Colour reflective screen, so it can replace a normal monitor for most office work
  • Gives off no light of its own; your exposure is whatever lights the room
  • PCPer found it at its best outdoors and in bright rooms, where backlit screens wash out
  • Runs on about 5 W from one USB-C cable, so it works off a laptop

Not so good

  • No light at all, so in the evening it is only as circadian-friendly as your lamp
  • PCPer found it less suited to dim rooms, and noted a slight blue tint in sRGB mode
  • $1,299 for a 1080p panel, with up to 2 months processing plus about 5 weeks shipping
  • No touch controls; Full HD only

The Monitor 2 is a 24-inch colour reflective LCD. There is no backlight: room light or sunlight passes through the panel, reflects off a mirror layer and comes back to your eyes. It looks more like a printed page than a glowing screen, and it uses about 5 W, so a single USB-C cable from a laptop can run it.

That makes it unusual among low blue light screens. It is not “warm”, it simply adds no light. During the day, beside a window or outside, you get daylight and a sharper picture. PCPer’s reviewer found it at its best in bright rooms and outdoors, and less suited to the dim lighting they prefer.

In the evening the screen is only as good as the lamp you read it by. Under a bright cool-white ceiling light, your exposure is the ceiling light. Pair it with a warm, dim lamp, like the amber options on our circadian light bulbs page.

At $1,299 for a 1080p panel it is expensive, and Eazeye quotes up to 2 months to process an order plus about 5 weeks to ship. If you need a screen for reading in the dark, a tablet with an amber light, such as the Daylight DC-1, suits evenings better.
