Good
- $199 with a 3-year warranty, the lowest-cost way into red light on this page
- Red and NIR have separate switches, so you can run red only
- Fits on a desk with a fold-out stand and a 5, 10 or 15 minute timer
- Sold direct by Hooga and on Amazon
Not so good
- The 73 mW/cm² figure is Hooga's, with no stated method, and no independent spectrometer reading was found
- Single-chip LEDs and only two wavelengths
- Covers a face or one joint per session, not a body
- Return shipping is deducted from refunds
The HG300 is the cheap way to find out whether you will keep up a red light routine. It costs $199, has 60 LEDs at 660 nm red and 850 nm near-infrared, and folds onto a desk. Hooga backs it with a 3-year warranty, matching Mito and PlatinumLED panels that cost six times as much.
The weak point is proof of output. Hooga quotes 73 mW/cm² at 6 inches but does not say how it measured it, and no independent spectrometer test of this model turned up. Treat it as a claim. For comparison, independent readings of $1,299 to $1,699 panels from Mito, PlatinumLED and Joovv ranged from 59 to 90 mW/cm² at the same distance.
Hooga’s own usage guide suggests about 5 minutes at 18 inches for skin and 10 to 15 minutes at 6 to 12 inches for joints. The red and near-infrared switches are separate. Red-only sessions avoid near-infrared near the eyes, and the panel has no blue LEDs, so it works for an evening session.
It covers about 16.5 by 13 inches at 6 inches, which is a face or one joint. If you want full-body sessions, the PlatinumLED BioMax 900 is the measured step up. If your goal is wrinkles, an FDA-cleared mask like the Omnilux Contour Face delivers a fixed dose with no guessing about distance.
