Specs from the manufacturer and the sources listed below. Last verified Oct 20, 2026.
Good
- 14 lb plastic housing, less than half the weight of the 33 lb BioMax 900
- App control, alarm-clock start and an Ambient Mode for low "calming alternative lighting"
- Slider pole mounts let you add panels later
- Joovv says eyewear is not needed in red-only mode
Not so good
- $1,699 for the lowest measured output of the panels here (59.2 mW/cm² average at 6 in)
- Only two wavelengths
- Alex Fergus measured uneven output across the panel and 62.1 dB of fan noise
- Not FDA cleared, and a 2-year warranty versus 3 years at Mito and PlatinumLED
Joovv is one of the best-known names in home red light panels. The Solo 3.0 weighs 14 lb thanks to a plastic housing, runs from an app, and mounts with other Joovv panels into a larger array. Ambient Mode, which Joovv describes as “calming alternative lighting”, is useful for evenings.
The numbers are the problem. Joovv does not publish irradiance on the product page. Alex Fergus measured a 59.2 mW/cm² average and a 72.4 peak across nine points with a spectrometer, and in his 17-panel comparison it placed 12th on output. The PlatinumLED BioMax 900 measured 90 for $400 less.
He also found the output uneven across the panel and recorded 62.1 dB of fan noise. It uses only two wavelengths, 660 and 850 nm, from 150 LEDs.
Joovv’s own guidance is 10 minutes at 16 to 24 inches, once a day. It says to wear the supplied eyewear whenever near-infrared is on, including Recovery+ mode.
The “Class II Medical Device” wording means a 510(k)-exempt listing, not FDA clearance for any use. Joovv is a fair pick if you already own Joovv panels and want to expand. For a new buyer, the BioMax 900 or the MitoPRO 1500X gives more measured light and a longer warranty for less money.
